Q. Does this book give young girls feminine role models?
A. After discovering the kitten was a yellow female and a Manx, Mrs. Bee decided that the kitten needed a very special name. As Mrs. Bee watched the kitten, she saw how it patiently waited for its prey and would stalk and attack anything that moved, including her feet. Mrs. Bee concluded that the kitten was a mighty huntress.
Mrs. Bee had read that the ancient Greeks believed there was a tribe of women who, to provide food for their families, became mighty huntresses. These women were called Amazons. To protect their homes and families, these powerful women were said to be fierce opponents in battle. Mrs. Bee decided "Amazon" would be a fitting name for the kitten.
The history of the Amazons provides young girls a powerful, feminine role model.
